Interest in Mil SF speculative fiction has expanded well beyond the core audience of even 25 years ago. Commercial competition for audience capture between brands is one driver. Using speculative Mil SF to explore concerning or threatening topics which saturate 24x7 news cycles is another. What is the balance between “topics of the moment” and more highly speculative topics which creators should strive for?  Panelists talk about the perils and promise of writing to market or writing  “what’s important” in a speculative MilSF context.
